Nonnewaug High School's curriculum is designed to give students the tools to become life-long learners to meet 21st century learning expectations and to ensure that students graduate college and career ready.

Nonnewaug’s Program of Studies is comparable to other public high schools in Connecticut and is designed to prepare students for admission to a four-year college, technical school, the military or the workforce. Students and their parents or guardians work in conjunction with our School Counseling Department in developing their individual course of study.

Additionally, the partnership with the University of Connecticut Early College Experience (ECE) is a concurrent enrollment program that allows motivated high school students to take UConn courses at their high schools for both high school and college credit.Courses are offered at different levels of study including college prep and academic as well as Advanced Placement and Honors courses for those students who meet the criteria.

In determining class rank, Nonnewaug High School uses a weighting system that takes into account the level of course difficulty. This gives students attempting a more challenging curriculum a higher standing, and is particularly important on college applications.

  • AP courses and UConn ECE courses will have the grade earned multiplied by 1.25.
  • Honors courses will have the grade earned multiplied by 1.17.
  • College prep courses will have the grade earned multiplied by 1.09
