Students dancing and singing in Bye Bye Birdie

Nonnewaug High School students are able to experiment, express themselves, and explore and achieve personal goals through a variety curricular and co-curricular activities and lessons in the fine and performing arts areas. The programs are designed to support the exhibition of student work, whether an Art Show in the Lobby at Nonnewaug or a full-scale theatrical or musical performance for the community.

Students are able to study specific mediums such as sculpture, photography, studio art and digital design. In 2015, Nonnewaug High School received 8 Golden Key awards in the Scholastic Art Contest and students were awarded scholarships totaling more than $50,000.

In addition, students can participate in the string ensemble, concert chorus, treble choir and band.

There is also a musical theater component that brings students together for a full-scale production of their choice. All acting, directing, play writing, costuming and musical scores are done by the students themselves and they are supported by staff and volunteers for a full-scale musical or play performed each spring.
