Integrated Preschool


Region 14 offers an Integrated Special Education preschool program for typical peers at each of our elementary schools based on where you live within the region. After a preschool screening, children will be chosen through a lottery system to determine eligibility for enrollment.

Important Dates for 2024-2025 School Year:

 

  • 3/15/2024: Paperwork and tuition payment due for current preschool families for the   2024-2025 school year.
  • 3/28/2024 Preschool screening appointment slot notification for those who have submitted paperwork.
  • April: Screening will be scheduled for the week of 4/22/2024
  • April : Acceptance date 5/3/2024
  1. Preschool screenings will take place at Bethlehem Elementary School and Mitchell Elementary School. 

2.  Those who attended the preschool screening will be notified if their child has been chosen.

Commonly Asked Questions 

Screening:

Q: When will information be available regarding enrollment in the preschool program?

A: Beginning in January, parents/guardians can complete the Pre Developmental History form and mail a hard copy to:

Q: When, where, and what time is the preschool screening?

A: You will be notified of your child’s appointment slot for the screening by

 March 28, 2024. The screening will take place at both elementary schools. Only those who have submitted completed paperwork and have been assigned an appointment slot may attend.

 

Q: How long is the screening and what will my child do there?

A: The screening is scheduled for 45 minutes. Your child will be observed on how they separate from a parent/guardian and go through stations designed to look at their language, motor, social, and cognitive skills.

 

Q: Do I stay during the screening?

A: Parents/Guardians are invited to a separate location in the school for a Q&A session with staff while the screening takes place and then return to pick up their child after the screening session.

 

Q: When will I find out if my child was chosen through the lottery system?

A: Families will be notified by May 3, 2024 if their child has been chosen for a spot. A registration packet will be sent to those chosen.

 

Q. When will the registration packet be due?

A. All required paperwork, including the signed contract, non – refundable one-time registration fee, tuition payment, residency documentation, birth certificate, and health form must be delivered to the Regional School District 14 Central Office (attn. Alice Pistritto) no later than Friday, May 17, 2024 in order to reserve your child’s spot in the program.

 

Q: My child wasn’t chosen in the lottery, now what?

A: Those children not chosen will be put on a waitlist by elementary school. Families will be notified of their position on the waitlist.

 

Q: My child is currently enrolled in the preschool program; will we be able to enroll again for the next school year?

A.   Yes! Students eligible to return for the 24-25 school year will be offered a spot and sent a registration packet. All paperwork and the tuition payment must be submitted by March 15, 2024

Q: Which elementary school would my child attend?

All 3 year olds will attend Preschool at Bethlehem Elementary School

 4 year olds --  All residents of Bethlehem will attend Bethlehem Elementary School.
If you are a  Woodbury resident, generally, students attend Mitchell Elementary School, however there are roads where students will attend Bethlehem Elementary School (See below)

Q: How much does the preschool program cost?

A.   We offer two options for paying tuition by personal check only. Sorry, credit card payments are not accepted.

B.   The tuition for the 2024-2025 school year is as follows:

*In addition, there is a non-refundable, one time, registration fee of $50 which must accompany the signed contract and tuition payment based on the option you selected. You may combine the one-time $50 registration fee and the tuition payment into one check.

 

Q: Is transportation included in the preschool tuition?

A: No, transportation is not provided by the region for typical peers. It is the family’s responsibility to provide transportation to and from school.

Q: How many typical peers are in each classroom?

A: This depends on the number of students receiving special education services. The state requires an equal number of typical peers to special education students. These numbers vary from year to year within our region.

Q: Who teaches the preschool classes?

A: Each class is taught by a dually certified Special Education preschool teacher. Specialized instruction and services are provided according to students’ individualized needs.

Q: What are the requirements for toileting?

A: In order for your child to participate in the preschool program, he/she must be fully toilet trained. Children are required to be independent with their clothing, while completing necessary steps while utilizing the toilet and hand washing.
