WOODBURY — Mitchell Elementary School 5th graders celebrated Veterans Day a few days early Friday afternoon by placing American flags along the front of the school. The highlight of the event was the ringing of the school bell by Vietnam veteran and Woodbury resident Chet Gage. As he did so, students stood in salute alongside the 122 flags they had planted in the ground. The event was held Friday because students will be off next Wednesday, the official Veterans Day, as part of their weekly off-day due to COVID-19. The flags will remain in front of the school through Veterans Day.
