COVID-19 Update
Region 14 continues to work with the Connecticut State Department of Public Health, Connecticut State Department of Education and the district’s local health departments to ensure that all of the state COVID-19 guidelines are being followed. I have enclosed a link regarding the Region 14 COVID-19 guidelines.
These guidelines are on the district’s website as well. There is a link on Region 14’s website that is seeking input from parents and staff on our COVID-19 mitigation strategies. This link will be available until November 1, 2022. I would like to extend a tremendous thank you to all of our school nurses who have worked tirelessly to ensure the safety of our students and staff.

Curriculum Corner
Beginning of the year benchmark assessments have begun in Kindergarten through 9th grade in literacy and math. Our teachers, coaches, and interventionists use the data from the iReady literacy assessment and NWEA math assessment to determine students' needs and inform instruction. From additional support to enrichment activities, the information we glean from these assessments helps us to identify growth targets for each student and assist them in reaching their individual goals. For students in grades 9-11, PSAT school day will be on Wednesday, October 12th. Research shows that students' scores improve each time they take the SAT. By taking advantage of these practice opportunities each year, students are better prepared for the SAT in March of their junior year. Additionally, their results may be linked to Khan Academy for personalized activities to improve in their specific areas of weakness while continuing to build upon their strengths.
District Safety
The safety of our students and staff is the district’s number one priority. Region 14 is in the process of reviewing our District Safety Plans as we work with our local police departments to improve all of our school’s safety protocols. Each school continues to complete monthly safety drills to ensure that our district safety plans are followed with fidelity. Each school’s School Resource Officer works closely with our building administrators to strengthen our safety procedures. The School Resource Officers are an indispensable part of the Region 14 School District.
District Engagement
One of the goals of the district this school year is to connect with families to gain a better understanding of the concerns in the school community. With that being said, I have enclosed a Superintendent’s “Meet and Greet” schedule in Bethlehem and Woodbury in October. These events will give me an opportunity to meet all of the wonderful parents in the district.
