An Important Message from the Superintendent - Return to In Person Learning, January 19, 2021

January 6, 2021

Dear Parents, Guardians, and Friends:

We are excited to welcome our students back on January 19th to in person learning.  We know from research how important in-person learning is for a student’s mental health as well as academic progress, but understand this a family decision based on your own unique needs. Those who opt NOT to have their student(s) return to in person learning, should complete the Remote Learning Request Survey (linked here) even if you have provided previous notification. This should be completed by Monday, January 11, 2021 for each of your students in the district.

Students in Preschool – Grade 8 will be full, in person learning beginning on January 19, 2021, M-T-Th-F with structured remote learning only on Wednesdays. Nonnewaug High School will be in a hybrid AABB schedule with structured remote learning only on Wednesday schedule. By Friday of this week, you will be receiving information from your student’s individual schools on expectations, schedules, and times. We want you and your student to be crystal clear on what to expect.  We are also most fortunate to have 5 new substitutes ready, with 15 working with Kelly Services, to become part of our substitute teaching force.

Please be aware, that as teachers shift their focus from all-remote, to mostly in-person learning, the remote-learning will be different than what is currently in place. FREE breakfasts and FREE lunches, paid for through monies provided by the U.S. government, are available in all our schools, every day.

As we look forward to the 19th, please know that the safety of our students and staff will always remain our primary concern throughout the district and for the remainder of the school year.

Thank you for your continued patience.

Sincerely,

Dr. Olzacki
