Adjusting Friday Distance Learning Expectations - Wendy Nelson Kauffman

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We will be adjusting our Friday expectations for staff and students beginning this week. As we shift from emergency remote learning to true distance learning, teachers will now use Fridays for professional learning, collaborative work with colleagues, and planning for student learning.

We are still asking students to check in for attendance on Friday, just as they normally would. However, they now can select from a menu of options including making up missed work, responding to individual teacher requests to use feedback to revise and re-submit work, or doing enrichment options. Special services will continue to work with students on Friday in order to meet individual needs. Nonnewaug students in AP and UConn ECE classes may also receive new assignments on Friday in order to meet external course requirements.

We are aware how stressful this time has been for some families, and we thank everyone for their flexibility, as we adapt to a new way of teaching and learning. I am also including a link to an article that reminds us of the many ways our students continue their learning by participating in daily household routines.

Your kitchen as a math classroom

As this week is teacher appreciation week, I want to thank parents as well, because many of you have assumed some of the responsibilities of teachers in your homes. Thanks for all you have done to support your child’s learning.

Stay strong and stay safe.
