Academics

Nonnewaug High School's curriculum is designed to give students the tools they need to meet modern learning expectations and become life-long learners. It ensures that students graduate ready for their future.

Nonnewaug’s Program of Studies is designed to prepare students for admission to a four-year college, technical school, the military, or the workforce. Students and their parents or guardians work in conjunction with our School Counseling Department to develop their individual course of study.

Additionally, the partnership with the University of Connecticut Early College Experience (ECE) is a concurrent enrollment program that allows motivated high school students to take UConn courses at their high schools for both high school and college credit. Courses are offered at different levels of study including college prep and academic as well as Advanced Placement and Honors courses for those students who meet the criteria.

In determining class rank, Nonnewaug High School uses a weighting system that takes into account the level of course difficulty. This gives students attempting a more challenging curriculum a higher standing, and is particularly important on college applications.

  • AP courses and UConn ECE courses will have the grade earned multiplied by 1.25.
  • Honors courses will have the grade earned multiplied by 1.17.
  • College prep courses will have the grade earned multiplied by 1.09
