NHS Book Club Installs Book Barn

NHS Book Club Installs Book Barn

The Nonnewaug High School Book Club members are excited to share their passion for books with members of the community. The Book Club members officially installed and filled their little blue Book Barn last week with an array of books for all ages.

The Book Barn, located in the back of NHS at the top of the stairs to the athletic fields, is the community service project of the Book Club. Members wanted to provide free quality reading materials to students, parents, and other community members who spend time at NHS.

Club advisor and NHS Library staff member Dawn Maletzke said she encouraged members to think of ways to contribute their time and energy to the community. “Having a way to share books with the public was high on their list,” she said.

Maletzke said the Book Barn is a free resource and the public is invited to take any book.  “The Book Club members will be monitoring the box to make sure that it is full and properly maintained,” she said. “It is not a requirement to return the book, but we will be accepting donations.”

Many thanks to the Woodbury Supply Company for donating the materials and to Club Advisor Dawn Maletzke's husband David for building and installing the Book Barn.
