MES K-2 Students Explore Misunderstood Animals

Mitchell Elementary School students in grades K to 2 explored the theme of misunderstood animals as part of their One Book, Two Schools title "A Boy Called BAT."

Kindergarteners researched skunks to see if they truly deserve their negative reputation and created headbands and models to showcase their learning. First graders studied sharks, which are often seen as dangerous predators, and discovered that many species are small and not aggressive. Second grade researched the Australian quokka, a marsupial often called “the happiest animal on earth.”

Across grades, students questioned assumptions, analyzed facts, and built a deeper understanding of the natural world and some of the misunderstood animals!
