NHS Invites Community For Summer Shared Reading Activity

Summer's almost here, and it's time to plan summer reading! The entire Region 14 community is invited to participate in the Nonnewaug High School English Department's Shared Summer Reading Project.

This terrific community project includes reading The Boys in the Boat by Daniel James Brown, as well as several additional activities related to the book. Join Nonnewaug and the Region 14 community on the journey to learn about this infamous American Crew team and their epic quest for gold at the 1936 Olympics. From perseverance to collaboration, this compelling non-fiction text embodies many of the Region 14 Vision of a Learner’s attributes.

In addition to the reading, NHS is hosting several coinciding events over the summer - attending the ALZ Regatta on Bantam Lake, a Rowing Competition at Strongtown Fitness in August, a talk in September by a NHS staff member on her father’s crew experience and journey to the Olympic team, and a Movie Night at NHS for the showing of The Boys in the Boat. Book and audiobook versions are available at the local libraries, YouTube, Hoopla, Libby, Audible, Chirp, Spotify, Google Play, and where books are sold.
