WMS Clubs and Activities
Woodbury Middle School offers many experiences, outside of the regular school day, that are designed to promote student achievement and success in school and in life.

All clubs begin the week of September 17th and are open to students in grades 6, 7 and 8.
Pick up time is at 3:30 unless otherwise noted.
Students should see the club advisors for permission slips.
Art Club - Provides additional experience in art. Advisor: Mrs. Pfenninger Lpfenninger@ctreg14.org Membership: Interested students in grades 6-8 will meet on Thursdays for the entire school year.
Creative Music Club: Creative music club is an opportunity to make music. If you play an instrument (guitar, bass, sax, trumpet, cello, etc.), bring it. If you don't have an instrument, but want to make music, you can come and play the drums. If you are creative, and want to make music, see Mr. Gardner for a permission slip in room 111. Advisor: Mr.Gardner, mgardner@ctreg14.org. Membership: See Mr. Gardner for a permission slip. Meets on Wednesdays in room 111.
Drama Club: Provides experience in all aspects of dramatic performance. Advisor: Mrs. Pfenninger, lpfenninger@ctreg14.org . Membership: Interested students in grades 6-8. Students must audition for the Drama Club production which is in April. Students should listen for announcements.
The Green Team: Our WMS Green Team focuses on how to keep our school and our planet more "green". The students' awareness of today's environmental issues will be raised with discussions, films, guest speakers, games, community service and other enlightening activities. This club's goals will be aligned with those of our energy conservation program now used throughout Region 14. Advisor: Mrs.Peterson, kapeterson@ctreg14.org . Membership: Students in grades 6-8. Meets first and third Wednesdays until 4:00 in room 209.
Homework Club: Provides academic support services for all students who require extra time and support in completing homework and other project-based assignments. Advisors: Mr. Slowikowski, gslowikowski@ctreg14.org, Mrs. McGrath, jmcgrath@ctreg14.org, Mrs. Madden, amadden@ctreg14.org, Mrs. Chasse, mchasse@ctreg14.org. Membership: Interested students in grades 6-8. Meets on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays all year as follows: Mondays with Mr. Slowikowski in room 102, Tuesdays with Mrs. McGrath in room 115, Wednesdays with Mrs. Madden in room 205 and Thursdays with Mrs. Chasse in room 202.
Intramurals: Provides experience beyond daily physical education instruction in all aspects of sports and games. Activities Include: flag football, soccer, basketball, wiffle ball, archery, floor hockey, badminton, tennis, Dance Dance Revolution and much more! Advisor: Mrs. McGrath, jmcgrath@ctreg14.org. Membership: Interested students in grades 6-8 will meet throughout the year on Wednesdays. Pick up time is 3:30. Permission slips may be obtained from Mrs. McGrath in room 141 or outside the gym hallway.
Leo Club: This club is a community service club that works under the guidance of the Lions Club. It combines active service and fundraising efforts to help the local, state, national and global community. Advisor: Mme Peterson, kapeterson@ctreg14.org . Membership: Meets the third Tuesday of each month.
Outdoor Club: Students will take part in various outdoor activities such as, hiking, walking, kite flying, croquet, bocce, snowshoeing and snowman building. Appropriate clothing and shoes are required in order for students to participate. Water bottles and insect repellant are recommended. Advisors: Mrs. Fitzpatrick, mfitzpatrick@ctreg14.org and Mrs. Musket, kmusket@ctreg14.org. Membership: Interested students in grades 6-8. Will meet every Thursday. Students will report to the LMC at wave 2 dismissal before going outside.
PR Club (Promote Reading): Members of this club will be involved in planning various activities, such as literacy week, book swaps and drives, One School, One Book, in order to promote reading at Woodbury Middle School. Advisors:
Mrs. Musket, kmusket@ctreg14.org and Mrs. Martin (Woodbury Public Library Teen Librarian). Membership: Interested students in grades 6-8. Meets every Wednesday in the WMS Library Media Center.
Robotics Club: Using LEGO systems, students design and build a robot that will perform required missions to compete in a statewide competition. The club begins in September and meets Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays in room 101 until the competition takes place in December. Advisor: Mrs. Mathieson, sugarhorsebarn@yahoo.com. Membership: Interested students in grades 6-8. All interested students must attend an informational meeting on Wednesday, September 19. Students must complete an application at the meeting on Thursday, September 20. Team members will be notified by September 25. The team is limited to 10 students.
Science Sleuths Club: Club members will explore the world of scientific sleuthing. They will learn how scientists solve crimes and what evidence they use to support their findings. Members will learn forensic science techniques such as: finger printing, using microscopes, examining physical evidence, making composite sketches, handwriting analysis and more! Club members will become science detectives and use a variety of clues and data to find solutions to many mysteries. Club activities also include forensic guest speakers and presenters. SHOC (Students Helping Our Community): Students involved in SHOC will plan activities that will enrich the student body and bring the community closer together. Through fundraisers for worthy causes, orienting new students to WMS, planning school wide events, and others that will support and enhance positive relationships. If you enjoy impacting your community, then SHOC is the club for you. Advisors: Mrs. Geraci, jgeraci@ctreg14.org and Mrs. O'Leary, doleary@ctreg14.org. Membership: Interested students in grades 6-8. Will meet every Tuesday excluding the first Tuesday of the month in Support Services.
Student Council: The Woodbury Middle School Student Council sponsors a wide variety of extracurricular, social, and leadership development activities throughout the school year, providing for a complete and enjoyable Middle School experience. Advisor: Mrs. McGrath, jmcgrath@ctreg14.org. Membership: Interested students in grades 6-8. Will meet every Monday in room 115.
Tech Ed Club: Provides additional instruction in Tech Ed. Advisor: Mrs. Peck, Epeck@ctreg14.org. Membership: Interested students in grades 6-8. Meets on Mondays for the entire year.
World Cultures Club: Students will explore other cultures around the world by making craft projects, trying out food, learning new words and phrases in other languages and hearing guest speakers talk about their experiences. Some meetings will go longer depending on the activity. Refer to the schedule provided to students. Advisors: Mrs. Meghani, jmeghani@ctreg14.org and Mrs. Sandor, ksandor@ctreg14.org . Membership: Interested students in grades 6-8. Meetings are held the second and fourth Wednesday until 4:00 in room 208.
Video Multimedia Club: Students will produce a variety of student planned video productions. Advisor: Mrs. Peck, Epeck@ctreg14.org Membership: Interested students in grades 6-8. Meets Thursdays in room 137.
YAC (Youth Action Council): Students will have a voice in the community and will help keep our youth safe from drugs. Advisor: Mrs. Hubbard, lhubbard@ctreg14.org. Membership: Interested students in grades 6-8. Meetings are held on Mondays in room 113.
Yearbook Club: Provides experience in all aspects of yearbook production. Advisors: Mrs. Meghani, jmeghani@ctreg14.org, Mrs. McCurdy, mmccurdy@ctreg14.org Membership: Interested students in grades 6-8. Meets every Tuesday in room 210 until the production is complete in early April. Pick up time is 3:30.
