Welcome to Regional School District 14

Welcome to the Region 14 Public Schools!  Located in Connecticut’s scenic Litchfield County, the towns of Bethlehem and Woodbury merged to form this K-12 school system in 1969.  Region 14 is a student-centered school district committed to high standards and continuous improvement.

Region 14 offers a challenging and rigorous curriculum to each of its approximately 2,000 students.  At the elementary level, the district offers a full-day kindergarten program at Bethlehem Elementary School, a facility that houses kindergarten, first, and second grade classrooms for the district.  Focusing on the developmental and learning needs of the Region’s youngest learners, the curriculum places a heavy emphasis on establishing strong foundations in early literacy and numeracy.

Mitchell Elementary School in Woodbury is home to Region 14’s third, fourth, and fifth grade students from both towns.  In addition to a strong academic program, Mitchell’s faculty and staff have created a culture committed to safety, responsibility, respectfulness, and preparedness.  An active Student Council at Mitchell Elementary introduces a number of whole school activities throughout the year, donating all proceeds to area charities.

The district sixth, seventh, and eighth graders attend Woodbury Middle School, also located in Woodbury, a school specifically designed to meet the academic, social, and emotional needs of young adolescents.  In addition to the core academic curriculum, students are given to opportunity to explore world languages, applied education, and any number of clubs and athletic teams.  This year, schedule revisions have allowed for an “Academic Lab” time to be built into each student’s day.  Lab time is set aside for students to receive assistance in areas where they are having difficulty or afford them opportunities for enrichment in areas where they are experiencing success.  Eighth grade students meeting established standards are eligible to earn first year high school credit in algebra and world language, affording them the opportunity to take more advanced courses in high school.

Nonnewaug High School is a comprehensive 9-12 secondary school. It is also home to one of Connecticut’s top-performing Agri-Science programs.  Headed by Director William Davenport, Connecticut’s 2004 State Teacher of the Year, the program accepts students from twenty-six surrounding communities.  In addition to a full academic course load, students participating in the Agri-Science Program also select from the following areas of study: Horse Management, Agricultural Production, Ag Mechanics, Green Plan Production, Veterinary Science, Conservation, and Nursery/Landscaping.

A comprehensive special education program serving students from the ages of three through twenty-one or high school graduation rounds out the Region’s educational program.

We are extremely proud of our accomplishments and the accomplishments of our students.  Please take time to review our web-site to learn more about the Region 14 school system serving students from Bethlehem and Woodbury.  Thank you and once again, welcome!

                                                                                                Sincerely,

                                                                                                Robert D. Cronin, Ph.D.

                                                                                                Superintendent of Schools
